Clitheroe Public Realm (Graeme Massie Architects)

Landscape design competition for redevelopment of Clitheroe's Castle Street and surrounding public realm. The proposals for two squares and focal points, one at either end of Castle Street, relate to both Clitheroe's Medieval urban grain and the wider landscape context. The proposals for a new public space, 'Castle Square', at the entrance to the castle grounds will build on the investment in the Clitheroe Castle Heritage Scheme, reinforce the historical association of Clitheroe Castle and reinterpret the historical route which lead directly from Castle Street to the castle. Similarly our proposals for the development of 'Market Place', restore the areas historic importance, by creating a comfortable, durable pedestrian orientated space with the capacity of being temporarily closed to traffic to accommodate speciality markets, small events and social activities. The project value is £1.6 million
